Underfloor Heating Electrical Wiring Reference

edit

Overview

edit

Underfloor heating systems use zone controllers and actuators to regulate heating in individual rooms or areas.

Main Components

edit
  • Boiler (or heat source)
  • UFH control manifold with actuators
  • Zone controller
  • Room thermostats
  • Pump
  • Wiring centre / control box

---

System Operation

edit
  • Each room thermostat controls an actuator on the manifold.
  • When a zone calls for heat, actuators open.
  • Pump and boiler are triggered via control module.

---

Wiring Concept

edit
  • Thermostats send signal to zone controller
  • Zone controller activates actuators
  • Boiler and pump receive combined demand signal

---

Key Wiring Points

edit
  • Actuators may be 230V or 24V (must be confirmed)
  • Each zone must be correctly assigned
  • Pump and boiler interlock via controller output
  • Keep low voltage and mains voltage separated where required

---

Common Fault Areas

edit
  • Incorrect actuator voltage mismatch
  • One zone not heating (failed actuator)
  • Incorrect thermostat pairing
  • No pump operation on demand
  • Wiring centre misconfiguration
  • Airlock or hydraulic issues mistaken for electrical faults

---

Notes

edit
  • Always confirm actuator voltage before replacement.
  • UFH faults are often mixed electrical/hydraulic issues.
